Kosher Food in Tecamachalco Mexico City

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

Mexico City is a very large city and there are four areas with Jewish communities and Kosher food. Polanco, Tecamachalco, Bosques and Interlomes.

We stayed in Polanco and traveled around to explore, it's a 20 minute Uber ride away. In Teca, there are two shopping centers full of Kosher shops and eateries. Here are some of them. Make sure to bring cash! A lot of these places don't take card.

Fuenta de La Huerta 22,

Lomas de Tecamachalco, 52780 MX

This beautiful restaurant is located in a JCC. This is no ordinary JCC, when you enter the building there is beautiful artwork displayed on its high walls. In order to get in, you need to show ID, so make sure to bring some, they take security seriously around here.

This terrace where the restaurant is located on the third floor is absolutely gorgeous and I wanted to just chill there all day. We ordered the grilled salmon, beet carpaccio, fried olives, and more, but the must item here is for sure the fried olives. They stuff it with cheese and it comes with a olive dipping sauce. It’s tasty, unique and fun!

Everything here is homemade, even the bread and butter, which I thoroughly enjoyed! They put cream cheese in the bread as a stuffing. Delicious. We also got this tea with dried fruit in it and it was the perfect way to end our meal.

They also have a completely different breakfast menu, I really wanted to go back for it but sadly, we didn't have time.

Must item: The Fried Olives

Av. Homero 1604, Polanco, Polanco I Secc,

Miguel Hidalgo, 11550 Ciudad de México, CDMX

I entered this address because if you go here you'll be at all the kosher stores in this complex. There's a lot to explore here so go on an empty stomach and an open mind!

Outside of the building there is a kosher food truck and a kosher fast food stand. I'm working on getting the names and more details but I can't even find it on Google. My suggestion is to poke around and see what piques your interest. First finish reading this before committing to Milchig or Fleishig. :)

When you walk in, there is an ice cream pop shop on the left called Waga.

Waga

Again, you can't find this on Google and I don't know the hechsher, so poke around etc.

The next place I'm going to show you is where we ate an early dinner. It has multiple menus, but we went for the dairy Mexican food. Go towards the back of the building and up the stairs. It's easy to find under this name:

Sushiteca

Fuente de Templanza 17, San Miguel Tecamachalco, Lomas de Tecamachalco, 53970 Naucalpan de Juárez, Méx.

We ordered a whole lot of food and I'll show you everything. It took a while for me to sort out the names of each thing because I literally never heard of any of this before, which is exciting! I do love trying new things. Let's start with my favorites.

This is called Pozole and I included two videos so you can see how to eat it. The waiter was kind enough to show us how, we looked like dumb Americans. 🙃

We got this drink called Horchata. It's a sweet Mexican drink made of rice, cinnamon and sugar. It's very very sweet and I enjoyed it, I do love cinnamon.

This next dish is my favorite from this place. On the menu it's called Chicarron, which is normally made of pork, but this is obviously not pork and instead it is made of fried cheese. You dip it in the guac and it's delicious. I wanted more of it!

Chilaquiles de Mole - we tasted this and it has sweet flavor, we couldn't finish it and didn't like it enough to take it go so we gave it to the table of girls sitting next to us, they were very happy about it.

Flautas - rolled tortillas filled with cheese, squeeze some of the sauces on it for the full experience.

Overall it was a great plave to try out some dairy Mexican food.

Must order: Fried Cheese

Next...

No Name Center - the locals call it KFC because there is a big KFC sign outside the center. The best way to find it is by going to Ajla Gourmet and everything is right there.

Av. de los Bosques # 234-Local - 3,

Lomas de Tecamachalco, 52780 Naucalpan de Juárez, Méx.

Ajla is a beautiful bakery and lunch spot serving pastries and pizza. They have another location in Interlomes that has more on the menu, so look into that location as well.

A local recommended that I try the Almond Croissant and it did not disappoint! It was also pareve so I was even more impressed with it. We also ordered a babka to go for Shabbos because it looked good.

Ranch Burger - Burger Bar

This is a small burger joint that has simple yet tasty burgers. A burger was around $8 USD. They have a thing here where they like to put a pineapple slice inside your burger, we didn't opt in but if you're feeling adventurous, try it!

El Rey del Falafel

It's right next door to Ajla so you can't miss it. We didn't eat here but one of the locals described it as the best falafel he had!

King Market Kosher - Grocery Store

This is small grocery store full of kosher goods. We stopped in and bought an interesting looking snack. They had a lot of dried fruit that we would have loved to explore. Go in and take a look!

La Bakerya

Yes, another bakery in this center. I didn't try anything but I'm leaving this here for your convenience. The security guard stopped me from taking any more photos.

Last one for this center.

Michoacana

It's an ice cream sorbet stand. Not everything here is kosher so you have to ask them which ones are. They're not on Google but you can find it in between Ajla and the Ranch Burger joint.

Dragon Box

Tecamachalco 58, San Miguel Tecamachalco,

Lomas de Tecamachalco, 53970 Ciudad de México, Méx.

We didn't go here to eat but we did order take out and it was pretty good. Get the rice for sure and the rolls.

That's all I've got on Teca!
